Ag Trasnú na Línte An eBike Journey Through 12 Townlands and 3 Islands
August 7th for the West Cork History Festival 2026 theme of Boundaries, this is a guided eBike field trip through 12 townlands and 3 bridged islands, exploring placenames, map lines, folklore, bridges and the stories held in the West Cork landscape
Created specially for the West Cork History Festival 2026 theme of Boundaries, this guided Gormú eBike experience explores what happens when we set lines, cross lines and follow the lines left behind in the landscape.
This relaxed 20km loop takes us through 12 townlands and across 3 bridged islands, using the journey itself as a way to explore the boundaries that shape West Cork: townland borders, island crossings, old roads, bridges, field edges, map lines, language lines and story lines.
Along the way, we will look at local placenames, folklore, landscape and history, with a particular nod to Colonel Thomas Colby and the Ordnance Survey work of the 1840s, when local names and boundaries were recorded, formalised and sometimes transformed on the map.
This is not a hard cycle. Our premium electric bikes make the distance very manageable, giving us time to stop, look around, listen and make sense of the places we are passing through.
This is a small-group Gormu eBike Tours experience, rooted in dúchas, local knowledge and the joy of travelling through West Cork at eBike pace.
